Christina Sorokou

Born 22/12/1977, Christina, a single mother of twin boys (2016), obtained her BA in Psychology and BFA in Dance at the University of California at Santa Barbara (1996-2000).

Returning to Cyprus, she worked as a dance teacher and counselor on issues which were faced by the students at Motion Arts Studio. In parallel, she worked at the Cyprus Patients’ Rights Movement, which was funded by the UN, with the objective of securing such rights for patients, as well as participating in the Long Term Training Course offered by the Council of Europe, under its Directorate of Youth and Sport. In 2001 Christina returned to the U.S.A., for her MA in Psychology at the American University.

Again returning to Cyprus in 2004, she establishes herself in Nicosia, working voluntarily at the Family Association for the Prevention and Management of Violence and trained under the Lions Quest program of the Lions International (on the methodology of training and handling difficulties of children and their families). In 2005 she obtains her Master Practitioner in Eating Disorders from the National Center for Eating Disorder in England. She, during this year, begins her further training in Person Centered Psychotherapy.

From 2005 to date she maintains and pursues her profession as a Licensed Counseling Psychologist.

From 2006 until 2007 she is employed full time, on a temporary status, at the Ministry of Education and Culture, where she works in the department of Educational Psychology (evaluating pupils from kinder-garden age to final year of secondary school age, counseling pupils and advising on intervention assistance needed, as well as dealing with family counseling). She served her country in the Civil Defense corps, where she was promoted to the status of Trainer.

In 2010 she obtained her Diploma in Person Centered Approach Psychotherapy (Czech Medical Association). From 2010 to date she maintains and pursues her profession as a Licensed Counseling Psychologist and Person Centered Approach Psychotherapist.

Toward the end of 2014 she becomes introduced to the world of rescue. Since then and to date she founded the NGO non-profit Oganization Humans For Dogs-CY (HE344396) for the protection and adoption of stray, abused and abandoned dogs in Cyprus.

Continuing her further education, she receives in 2015 her diploma in Solution Focused Therapy and in 2017 she obtains her additional practitioner Diplomas in Systemic and Family Psychotherapy, as well her child and Teenager Systemic Play Therapy.

In 2019 Christina establishes the Dutch brunch of Humans For Dog CY, Humans For Dog CY – NL  (75347822) and merges with the shelter Rescued Dogs For Adoptions.
